ZCL is currently recruiting to the role of Production Manager (1st Shift) to be based in our Edmonton, AB (6907-36th Street) manufacturing facility. If you are a motivated worker who wants to work for a respectful employer and be part of a supportive team, then ZCL is the place for you!

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager supervises, manages, and plans the overall activities in the production facility. Plant activities include molding, assembly and testing of underground storage tanks. This position is accountable for planning and delivery, while maintaining high quality and safety standards through on-the-floor interaction with plant employees.

DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Production Management

  • Supervises production of single and double-wall UST products including Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) molding and assembly. Assigns jobs including providing necessary written instructions for material to be used and specifications
  • Oversees the production process, maintains the production schedule, monitors the production processes, and adjusts schedules as needed
  • Supervises tank assembly activities. Issues work orders including blueprints, manpower, materials and equipment needed; gives verbal and written instructions. Verifies each step of production for accuracy and quality of the products
  • Ensures that production is cost effective and products are produced within schedule and quality parameters
  • Schedules and optimizes work production according to product ship dates
  • Maintains all documentation on tank construction to ensure proper molding and assembly
  • Compiles and reviews monthly reporting activities as required
  • Participates in the advancement and implementation of lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Works closely with internal stakeholders including sales, engineering and customer service to troubleshoot problem areas and ensure production needs are met

Employee Management

  • Administers Company policies and procedures
  • Schedules all hourly employees including production foremen
  • Oversees the recruitment and training of new and existing employees within assigned departments
  • Provides direction, coaching, and leadership to employees to ensure plant alignment with operational and organizational strategic goals
  • Accountable for employee performance management including evaluating performance, providing coaching, and applying corrective action
  • Calculates and approves hours in the ERP system on a daily basis

Safety Management

  • Ensures that health and safety guidelines are followed
  • Assists in hazardous waste disposal, ensuring that all company guidelines are properly followed throughout the plant regarding hazardous waste labeling, handling, storage and disposal
  • Responsible for maintaining and promoting a safe work environment for employees
  • Ensures that all incidents are reported immediately and that complete written reports are prepared as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school education or equivalent with post-secondary manufacturing related training and certifications required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management or related field highly preferred
  • Project Management Certificate or progression towards a Project Management Certificate would be an asset

Management Expertise

  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing facility or similar facility required, Union experience is preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a plant superintendent or similar leadership role
  • Working knowledge and practical experience with implementing Lean/Sigma/TPS required
  • Experience with composites and/or fiberglass is an asset

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Conversant with the following: computer applications (ERP systems and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook), calculator, measuring tools, as well as hand tools, rolling methods, power tools, ultrasonic thickness gage, calipers, micrometer, fork lift and mobile crane
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills with the ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to analyze and interpret performance metrics
  • Ability to identify defects when performing product inspections
  • Ability to instruct employees in the proper and safe use of all hand power tools, material handling, equipment and machinery proficiently
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Excellent organizational & administrative skills with the ability to work with minimum direction and coordinate multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong skills in production management and quality manufacturing methods
  • Strong skills in training, managing and developing employees
  • Must be familiar with materials used in manufacturing and assembly
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
